Land prices in Japan

The 25,565 survey points of Japan's official land-price public notice (公示地価, kōji chika), 2026 edition.

What's in the dataset?

Published every March by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (国土交通省), the kōji-chika survey gives a fair-market reference price per square metre for 25,565 points across Japan. The 2026 edition covers:

  • 17,890 residential plots
  • 6,509 commercial plots
  • 1,050 industrial plots
  • 70 future-residential plots
  • 46 forest plots

Each row carries ~100 fields: use-type classification, nearest station + walking distance, area in m², year-over-year change, building and floor-area ratios, urban-planning zone, fire-protection classification, and a full price history from 1983 through 2026. Coordinates are provided for every point (100% lat/lng coverage).

The sample on this page is a curated subset (~350 points): the top 100 most expensive nationally, the top 5 per prefecture, and the top 10 per use type. The full dataset is available in the underlying SQLite.
